The Die Guys: Baker Perkins’ process expertise in every die

We believe our service to North American customers in the cookie, cracker and pet treat industries for rotary moulder, rotary cutter and wirecut dies is far ahead of the competition.

It’s good to know our customers think so, too.

A recent issue of the authoritative Pet Food Processing magazine featured Hampshire Pet Products in Joplin, Missouri, a co-manufacturer of baked and cold-extruded pet treats. An important aspect of Hampshire’s strategy in selecting successful projects is to develop and propose new products and formulas to customers. In order to maximize their capabilities they have an in-house kitchen to test new products.

President Julie Larson says Baker Perkins is a key part of the process. “They have been a partner with Hampshire since we started the business and they understand what it is that we actually need from a die roll and from a rotary moulder. They are quick to address our needs and they have offered competitive pricing to our customers. Most of our customers purchase their own die rolls. We are the intermediary in that, and Baker Perkins has really taken good care of our customers as well as Hampshire.”

Of Hampshire’s four processing lines, three are from Baker Perkins. Three baked treat lines include Baker Perkins’ rotary moulders, one with a 205 ft and two with 180 ft ovens, followed by dryers designed and built in-house by Hampshire.

The Die Guys

Our Die Guys are always available to provide advice and assistance, either on the phone or in person. Whether you are considering a new die, having problems with an existing one or want to know about repair or recoating options, our Die Guys are ready to help. They can also advise on optimum set-up for your forming equipment.

This is a custom service based on a complete understanding of our customers’ needs. Our team of specialists designs die rolls for specific products – and sometimes designs the product itself in conjunction with a customer.

Design utilizes the latest 3D software, and a 3D printer is used to produce hand samples for rapid evaluation. Test sleeves are produced for pre-production review or testing – including test baking either in the customers’ own oven, or on the pilot line in our Innovation Center. Our use of advanced machine tools keeps quality high and lead times to a minimum.
