Departments – Electricians

About

The electricians’ main purpose is to wire and fit electrical parts onto machines that the fitters have completed to supplied drawings, and connect electrical panels supplied by external suppliers. They work to electrical drawings designed by our Technical department and ensure all their work is tested and fit for purpose to the customer’s demands.

Entry qualifications

The Fitting shop is made up of skilled fitters and electricians who have completed a recognised apprenticeship and we’ve recently been taking on experienced fitters.

Meet The Team

Martin Helme

Electrician

Martin started at Baker Perkins in 2022 having previously worked for an oil and gas company based in Ely called Michell Instruments where he was a Systems Build Technician.

Before his engineering career started, he went to Cambridge Regional College (CRC) to do his Engineering NVQs which covered areas like CNC, electrical, milling, welding and so on.

He was at CRC for three years, where he passed all levels, and joined Baker Perkins to further his electrical experiences and understand it more for the future.

Paul Vjestica

Electrician

Paul completed an electrical apprenticeship at Newalls and came to Baker Perkins in 1984. Since then, he’s completed an NVQ Level 3 in Computer Programming and has used that to help him at work ever since. He’s mostly based in the Extruder and Confectionery side of the business and helps to mentor the apprentices.

A Typical Day

A typical workday for the team is to follow drawings and use their experience to complete the build in the time stated for the job. They will also push the quote – if in doubt, ask! Section leaders will task individuals with new jobs which they will check off, collect drawings and any other related parts, complete the job and leave the area tidy for the next one.

They also have apprentices in the area and team members might be asked to help mentor and guide them in their daily tasks, all whilst working in a safe manner to not put anyone in danger.

Who We Work With

The electricians work closely with the Mechanical fitters to ensure they work around each other; when the job is part-completed by the fitters, the electricians can complete it. They also work closely with the Electrical technicians to resolve any issues which may arise through the drawings and test the machines ready for them to come and do their own tests.
