Departments – Site Facilities

About

As a team we maintain capital equipment and, where appropriate, the site and buildings, in the most cost-effective manner, with minimal disruption to production schedules. This includes participating in planned maintenance out of hours/unsociable times when necessary, as well as ensuring data and information is collated effectively as required for schedule/maintenance/site tasks for reporting purposes.

We respond as directed to breakdown repairs to machine tools and other site services repairs, and participate in developing/implementing service and maintenance schedules for key equipment and those subject to legislation.

We also get involved in maintenance projects such as Conference Room upgrades, machine tool moves, machine tool decommissioning and office relocations, and prioritising and updating the maintenance helpdesk.

When required, we can also confidently liaise with sub-contract labour attending site and it’s our responsibility to ensure their compliance with Baker Perkins Health & Safety policies and procedures.

Meet The Team

Luke Burton

Site Facilities Manager

Luke joined Baker Perkins in 2012 to start a multi-skilled apprenticeship and completed a Mechanical and Electrical apprenticeship with an electrical bias. He was keen to broaden his skills and knowledge further, so when a vacancy arose in the Maintenance/Site Facilities team in 2016 he decided to take up this challenge. After four years on the tools, he moved up to Site Facilities Manager in 2020, describing it as a completely new challenge for but one he’s enjoying within the company.

Gary Mostowyj

Site Services engineer

Gary has worked in the Peterborough engineering industry since 2004. His career started at Peter Brotherhoods where he served his time as an apprentice working on steam turbines, gas compressors and CHP units. He then moved on to Newall UK where he was trained as a machine tool fitter. In this role travelled to customers on a global scale servicing, installing and refurbishing grinders for the aviation community.

He started working at Baker Perkins in November 2017 as a fitter working on the bakery, biscuit and confectionary lines. He was asked to help the Site Services department with some production machinery that had broken down and worked with them on many occasions after that. When a role was advertised for a Site Facilities Engineer in October 2020 he applied, formally joining the team in November that year.

Shaun Daniels

Site Services engineer

Shaun is the newest member of the team, joining Baker Perkins in January 2022 having spent 6 years out on the road as a Service Engineer in the food industry.

“I had heard lots of good things about Baker Perkins so when the job opportunity came up I couldn’t say no. The team welcomed me in straight away and provided me with the training I required to do my job. Every day is different for us in Site Facilities which is what I enjoy the most.”

A Typical Day

Every day in the Site Facilities department is different and presents a new challenge. There are several ways that a day might go, from responding and reacting appropriately to unplanned breakdowns on machinery to liaising with and working closely with external contractors on large projects within the site.

As a team we must be extremely flexible and versatile with our approach to working activities; at times we can be dragged from one job to another depending on the priority and needs of the business.

Communication within the business is key as we work closely with many departments, so there are often meetings to attend. There are several internal inspections to carry out on plant and equipment on a regular basis, including statutory inspections and internal audits.

Who We Work With

The Site Facilities team works closest with the Manufacturing department to ensure that all equipment is regularly maintained, and that breakdowns are prioritised to aid with production.

We are also heavily involved in Health & Safety implementation and changes around the site, so we work very closely with the Health & Safety Manager. As the Site Facilities team is not limited to one area within the business, we have to have a good working relationship with all areas of the business.
