Biodegradable Packaging

Biodegradable Packaging

The process of mixing, hydrating, expanding, shaping and cutting bio-materials into chips and shapes has much in common with food extrusion, in which Baker Perkins has significant expertise.

Ideal for a range of applications

Loose fill packaging materials are becoming more familiar as shopping habits migrate online.  Loose fill chips, or peanuts, are ideal for despatching a range of products as they are lightweight and flow easily to fill gaps between the box and product.

Full product type availability

Dies and cutters for chips, strips and sheets are available, and are easily interchanged to manufacture a full range of products.  Our range of twin-screw extruders includes a benchtop machine for research labs, a unit for pilot plants and a range of production extruders.

Stability with flexibility

The chips interlock to form a rigid and stable yet flexible structure that prevents movement of the product while providing good shock absorption.

Baker Perkins’ Innovation Centres

Biodegradable materials are increasingly becoming the norm: this is a fast-moving field with new products and a wider range of biomaterials. At Baker Perkins Innovation Centres in the UK and USA, twin-screw extruders are available for everything from demonstrations of current technology to new product development trials and experiments with new materials.
