Job Title: Trainee IEX Technical and Process Manager

Location: Peterborough based, although an element of travel will be required

Position this role reports to: Technical Manager & Director, IEX

Job Purpose:

  • To work alongside the Technical Manager & Director, IEX, in the form of a deputy executing the key elements of the role whilst developing a long term succession route into this role


  • Engineering qualification to degree level or equivalent would be an advantage

The Job (Main Duties):

Technical Manager

  • You will continuously update and evolve the Baker Perkins Industrial Extruders and related range of equipment
  • You will assess and manage risk of IEX proposals and contracts
  • Be responsible for engineering specifications and performance of IEX range of equipment
  • Actively seek regular interaction with customers and other bodies in order to understand customers’ requirements, business drivers, trends, buying criteria and business opportunities for Baker Perkins
  • Specify equipment and materials of construction to suit specific applications
  • Identify opportunities for material development to enable competitive edge against competitors
  • Assist the sales team by visiting customer sites where technical support is required 
  • You will be responsible for resolving technical problems in the IEX sector and agreeing rectification route for manufacturing errors
  • Actively develop and manage development projects for IEX

Process Manager

  • You will manage IEX lab
  • You will plan and execute extrusion trials for both internal and external customers
  • Provide reports with conclusions and recommendations where appropriate
  • Ensure test area is maintained and operated securely ensuring risk assessments and COSHH are up to date
  • Carry out customer visits to optimise quality and throughput on industrial extrusion processes
  • To be aware of and follow all company Health & Safety policies and procedures, in respect of self and others

Candidate Profile (Experience, Skills and Knowledge):

  • Experience in equipment, plant operation and the production process deployed in the IEX industry
  • Capability to undertake technical analysis in order to solve problems and drive developments
  • Be prepared to travel to support equipment sales, site troubleshooting, customer and competitor awareness and equipment development strategy
  • Good communication skills to allow effective working internally, with suppliers and customers at all levels
  • Experience of working on customer sites and dealing with customers
  • A creative, open mind
  • A motivated self-starter – able to work alone but still be part of a team
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Valid driving license
  • Knowledge of Epicor business system would be an advantage

Travel Activity:

  • An element of travel will be required
