Job Title: Section Leader

Location: Peterborough

Position this role reports to: Production Manager

Job Grade: 12 (indicative grade)

Number of Reports: 12

To manage a team of people within a designated Manufacturing section. You will have direct day-to-day responsibility for the communication, workload, quality and staff performance of all activities within the designated manufacturing team.

To maintain a safe working environment, by ensuring that all health and safety regulations are strictly adhered to.

To identify areas for improvement and drive through changes to gain bottom line results.

Main Duties:

  • Assist the Production Manager in implementing process change initiatives, cost reductions and achieving performance improvement targets.
  • Manage the department’s production workload, equipment utilisation, and to ensure health and safety adherence.
  • Duties to include but not limited to, discipline, time and attendance, and performance appraisals for all direct reports.
  • Attend or chair daily/weekly/monthly meetings and briefs, as required, in order to communicate departmental/company information.
  • Ensure safe and clean working practices are adhered to, as identified via housekeeping audits.
  • Actively reduce or eliminate ‘waste’ activities and challenge existing processes and procedures.
  • Ensure orders and resources are prioritised and communicated accordingly.
  • Report quality issues to continually improve product and process quality.
  • Management of direct reports.
  • Provide valuable expertise to other departments and functions.
  • Deputise for the Production Manager and other Section Leaders, as and when required.
  • Drive and be a role model for the company values & behaviours.
  • To be aware of and follow all company Health & Safety policies and procedures, in respect of self and others.

Profile:

  • Self-motivated and quality conscious.
  • PC literate (ideally Epicor & Office)
  • Confident and decisive, with good people management and communication skills
  • Tenacity and drive to bring about improvements.
  • Sound technical knowledge of capital equipment and spares manufacture. 
  • Able to liaise with Technical and Production Engineering to improve and develop products.
  • Able to work within cross-functional teams to achieve business results.
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills.
