Job Title: Director of Operations

Location: Peterborough

Position this role reports to: Managing Director

Job Grade: 18 (indicative)

Job Purpose:

To manage the Operations functions of a multi-site operation to ensure the most effective use of resources to meet customer orders, on time, maximising financial contribution and within budgeted cost, and to the appropriate quality standards.

To manage and develop the team, production facilities, external capabilities, supply chain and manufacturing methods.

Main Duties:

  • To manage and develop the Operations teams to ensure that the function is properly resourced with the appropriate structure and skills to meet the business needs
  • To ensure that customer orders are manufactured, delivered, installed and commissioned on time, maximising financial contribution and within budgeted cost, and to the appropriate quality standards and key financial metrics
  • To set inventory policy, optimising the balance between performance and cost, ensuring lead times are appropriate for market requirements
  • To ensure that manufacturing capability and methods are continuously improved and to propose appropriate capital investment to help ensure the company maintains and improves its competitive positon and profitability
  • In conjunction with the Director of Human Resources, to lead negotiations with the trade unions
  • Manage the supply chain
  • To ensure adherence and maintenance of relevant standards (e.g. 9001)
  • To drive and ensure compliance with the Health and Safety policy
  • To contribute to the overall development and management of the business as member of the senior management team

Profile:

  • Significant experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience of managing a supply chain.
  • Capability to undertake technical analysis in order to solve problems and drive developments
  • Excellent communications skills to allow effective working internally and externally, with suppliers and with customers at all levels
  • Operations management in a project manufacturing environment
  • Health Safety & Environment in manufacturing
  • Leading, managing and co-ordinating teams
  • Production and Inventory planning and control
  • Managing and prioritising conflicting demands
  • Implementation of Operational Excellence techniques
  • Establishing new processes and systems
  • Leading an Operations Team through periods of growth
  • Commercially astute with excellent analytical skills
  • Problem solving
  • IT Literate – Microsoft Office, MS Teams
  • Ability to read engineering drawings

Travel Activity:

Prepared to travel to support the business as required
