Petfood Forum 2015 – Kansas City, MO

Baker Perkins attended Petfood Forum 2015 at the Kansas City Convention Center, April 27-30, 2015. We focused on the opportunity to explore new product ideas on a twin-screw extruder newly installed in our Innovation Center in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Companies in the pet products sector can use this extruder to create new products and processes, produce samples for evaluation, carry out feasibility studies, and train staff. The development allows customers to explore the extensive capability of the Baker Perkins SBX Master™ extruder range.

Baker Perkins’ twin-screw cooker extruders produce an extensive range of pet foods. Options include direct expanded pieces with a biscuit-like texture, produced in a variety of sizes on a standard extrusion line. Adding a co-extrusion system creates the ability to produce added-value center-filled products. These consist of cream or paste, in an almost unlimited variety of colors and flavors, surrounded by an outer shell.

Baker Perkins retains its unique capability to provide complete systems for the production of baked pet foods and treats. Over 100 years’ experience has given us unrivalled process expertise in technologies including mixing, forming and baking – the key processes in baked pet food and pet treat production.

Baker Perkins understands the special requirements involved in processing the heavier doughs necessary for pet food or treat production. Robust, heavy duty equipment is essential to mix, feed and form the dough into the required shapes. Baking also has specific characteristics that are exclusive to pet food and treat production.

Experience in the design and installation of many pet food lines throughout the world has given Baker Perkins a unique database of knowledge. Baker Perkins uses its process familiarity to design equipment that meets the specific needs of the industry, and imaginatively solves issues such as better weight control, reduced maintenance and easier use.

We specify exactly the right system for each end product requirement. Rotary moulding and sheeting are the options following the mixing process: we identify the technique that suits the individual application.

As well as offering ‘best-in-class’ equipment for each key process stage, there is constant development of new end products and processes to meet the market need for innovation. Baker Perkins systems provide the flexibility to make a broad variety of attractive shapes, colors and flavors.
